Railway Exam Fee Refund (RAILWAY RECRUITMENT BOARD (Govt. of India, Ministry of Railways)

The decision came in February immediately after there was a huge uproar on the 'four times' hike in RRB exam fees. The exam fee of R 250 will be refunded to the candidates through online payment mode. Candidates who have paid R 500 shall berefunded R 400, if they appear for the exam.

Indian Railways, which is on a mega recruitment drive to fill over 89,000 posts, has come up with an incentive to weed out applicants who are “not serious” and don’t turn up for exams. A big portion of the exam fee will be returned when an applicant appears for the exam.

While the exam fee is pegged high — ₹500 for general and ₹250 for SC/ST candidates — ₹400 will be returned to the candidate who appears for the exam in the first category, and the entire sum for the second category. This is apart from relaxation in eligibility criteria such as in educational qualifications and age.

The Railways has also decided to conduct the recruitment exam, computer-based tests without any interview, in 15 languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, besides English and Hindi. Candidates can sign in any language, which negates the earlier stipulation of signing only in Hindi or English.

The maximum age limit for recruitment has been relaxed by two years for different categories. The maximum age limit for unreserved categories would now be 30 years, OBC 33 years, and SC/ST 35 years for Group C, Level II posts (Assistant Loco pilot and technicians) and 33, 36, and 38 years respectively for Group C, Level I posts (erstwhile group D posts, including track maintainer, pointsman, helper etc). In the South Western Railway alone, 435 vacancies of ALPs, 572 vacancies of technicians (including for Rail Wheel Factory), and 2,293 vacancies of Level I posts are to be filled.

While the Railways had earlier specified 10th pass and ITI qualification even for Group C and Level I posts, it now has reverted to the earlier position of 10th pass or ITI, for these posts. It is offering an attractive salary package for these posts with Level II posts having starting salary of ₹19,900 and Level I posts ₹18,000.
